Belarussian fashion designer, Maria Dubinina debuted on this year’s Belarus Fashion Week. Alongside other rising-star designers, Dubinina showcased her collection for fall, Shark.
The inspiration for the collection is the uncompromising, modern-day warrioress who, just like a shark, has to “eat” the weaker in pursuance of survival. The result is a line up of muted-colored, simple-formed plucky clothes that complement the idea of a refined predator. The designer played with tweed garments and charcoal coats to give the collection that edgy feel. Dubinina also incorporated an element of sportswear with glossy quilted jackets and vests that were very translatable to everyday street-style. The designer showed that there’s more to her protagonist than meets the eye – The elongated silhouette and powder pink and nude silky dresses expressed the protagonist’s softer, feminine side that lies beneath the bulletproof shell. With dramatic make-up, Max Mirnov’s clutch bags and large, teardrop-shaped Murano glass earrings courtesy of Laura Bareghamyan, the story for the fall was complete.
Maria Dubinina received her Fashion Design Bachelor of Arts degree in Minsk and successfully runs her own studio for design and sewing of clothes.
